Bienvenue Willkommen Bienvenido Welcome
This site is about urban places, about attractive cities where people want to work and visit and which support healthy and vibrant lives for their residents, about the task of reducing the carbon footprint of those cities and their citizens and, most of all, about opportunities for people from across the world to learn from the experiences of the cities of mainland Europe.
Whatever the outcome, the December Climate Change summit in Copenhagen will add to the urgent need for urban areas to make major reductions in carbon emissions. This will require comprehensive changes. Sustainable Cities Europe Ltd hopes and believes our intervention can make a timely modest contribution to this process.
Initially, this site will be the place to book an exciting and informative course in mainland Europe during spring 2010. There will be a choice of four events, two occurring in March before the Easter holiday and two, in April, after the Easter holiday. Each course will last for 5 or 6 days. In each, participants will visit and experience several elements of three or four cities, and learn from presentations by local practitioners. ‘Everything is connected’ is the underpinning of all our course content.
Amongst the cities are Zurich, regularly ranked in the world’s top three best "quality of life" urban places; Freiburg, which brands itself the solar capital and which has pursued sustainable policies and practices for 30 years; and Nantes, a leader on creative industries oriented to regeneration and which includes one of the largest former industrial master planned redevelopment areas in Europe. Participants can also choose courses in three easily accessible Western European cities with great leisure and business activities: Brussels, Paris and Frankfurt. There will be two courses which include ‘April in Paris’.
Costs will be kept as low as possible to make participation affordable for a wide range of people. For those of you who book places early, prices below 1300 euros will be offered. (Euro to Dollar conversion)
We will welcome interest and course registration from everybody who finds their way to our web site. The spring 2010 courses will be especially aimed at people who work in the physical and built environment occupations and those involved in urban policy and services delivery at international, national, regional and local levels. We hope our pricing approach will also make the courses affordable to some citizen activists and others who have to pay their own way.
Please visit this site again soon. The first season of courses will be on sale in December.
